How can Light Therapy help Teens?
These days, teenagers tend to spend a lot of time in front of the computers, chatting with their friends and similar activities. The result is
well known: they are not able to fall asleep till 2AM, even if they don’t want to. There are some logical, biological reasons why this happens to
teenagers.
After a certain age, children become more active in the evening, than as they were used to in the morning. In medical terms, the circadian
rhythms shift from a morning preference to an evening preference. This is an internal change and the biological clock becomes instable by showing
errors.
Due to this fact, a question needs to be put: How can teens reset their internal body clock? Clinical research has shown that light therapy is
the answer for this kind of medical affection. Light therapy is not only efficient in this case, but it also represents a good treatment for
depressions and SAD (Seasonal Affective Disorders).
Light therapy is a very simple treatment. It only involves the patient to look at a source of light for a specified period of time, like 30
minutes or 1 hour. It is a good method to reset the internal body clocks, and also for motivating and offering the patients a new and positive
perspective over the world. The entire area where light therapy has proven to be beneficial is not fully known yet. What is certain is that light
treatment has an immense unexploited potential. The future will show if these speculations are right or wrong.
Finally, we must state that it is important to base more on the simple and non evasive methods, than advising drugs and other medicines. Light
therapy is highly effective, even when it comes to depressions and other mental disorders. They are also called lights for seasonal affective
disorder, due to the excellent results shown in the treatment of this mental illness.
