Seasonal Mood Disorders can be treated - Light Therapy is the Solution.

Each time winter comes, people tend to get not only a cold or flu, but the metal state is also affected. Seasonal mood disorders represent a real danger for the people who are more emotional sensitive. They are also called Seasonal Affective Disorders (SAD). These disorders can cause a lot of damage to the persons who are already suffering from depressions and anxiety. Light therapy does not represent a miracle cure. It can be done wherever the person wants.

The process is simple, by providing enough light of the right spectrum to the eyes retina. It causes hormonal shifts, having the same response as the usual daylight. But, light therapy means also the exposure to intense light under specific conditions. The treatment consists in sitting close to a light box, with the lights on and the eyes wide open. There is no danger at all. The light is powerful enough to have a psychological effect, but it is not capable to endanger the health of the eyes.

As said, the apparatus is set at low luminosity. Furthermore, it is important to say that light therapy does not incapacitate the person to do something else than looking at the lights. Any person, who treats his or her SAD with light therapy, must know that it can be done even when reading, writing or eating. The person in case needs only to orient the head and body towards the eyes. Intense research revealed that light therapy is effective at most of the people. Currently, it is used especially in the Nordic countries, such as Norway, Sweden and Denmark. There are numerous types of lights for SAD currently on the market. The treatment sessions can vary at each apparatus, lasting from 15 minutes to even 2 hours. It depends mostly on the subjects mental state.
